Hey Singers: Auditioning for a Pop Show? Here’s the Ultimate Song List!

Are you a singer preparing for your next audition for a pop show? Whether you’re dreaming of joining the cast of SIX the musical or another pop-driven production, I’ve got you covered!

Auditioning for a musical with a modern, pop-style score can be a challenge. Choosing the right pop song to showcase your voice, personality, and energy is critical to standing out. That’s why I’ve put together a  pop song list featuring tracks I’ve personally heard at open calls and invited auditions for SIX.

These songs have been performed by talented singers from all over. I hope this list inspires you to explore new ideas and add more pop songs to your audition book.

Now, let’s talk about a common concern: Is your song choice too “overdone”? Here’s my advice—there are very few pop songs that are truly overused in auditions. If you’ve got a song that works perfectly for your voice and lets your personality shine, stick with it! It’s far better to sing a familiar song with confidence, connection, and style than to pick a lesser-known track just for the sake of being unique.

When preparing for a pop musical audition, remember that your song choice is only part of what makes you stand out. Your energy, vocal delivery, and storytelling are what will captivate casting directors. If your favorite pop song checks all the boxes for your unique style, don’t be afraid to go for it.

What about riffing? Absolutely. But don't let the RIFF overpower your storytelling. This is still theatre and you must connect to the lyrics. Also, find subtext for your RIFFS. That also helps your connection.

Happy singing, and best of luck with your auditions!

SPELLING BEE NATIONAL TOUR

Found this cute little video from my days on tour with "Putnam County Spelling Bee." The comfort counselor was played by Julius Thomas III, long before he became the HAMILTON star he is today. I played Rona Lisa Peretti and was clearly having the time of my life! Not a great video quality, but still fun.
