Intersections

"Intersections" is a beautiful collection of Broadway favorites wrapped in traditional Jazz arrangements. This unique marriage is completely sanctified by the exceptional artistry of Roberta Duchak, one of America's most accomplished singers and stage actresses. From Cole Porter to John Larson, from Stephen Sondheim to Irving Berlin, "Intersections" redefines what's "cool" about the Broadway show tune.

Making the CD:
I met my producer, Phil Swann while we were working together in Chicago on a musical that he wrote. I knew immediately I wanted him to produce my future c.d. Our goal was to make a true, live, jazz c.d. in 5 days. I didn't get the charts ahead of time and there were no rehearsals. I flew to Nashville, Tennessee. I met my engineer and musicians, the clock started, and we just made it happen! I couldn't have asked for a more talented team. Without a doubt making this c.d. was the most authentic and creative musical experience in my life.

Jazzchicago.net review
Jazzchicago.net Displaying impressive range and control, this is a singer that fans of female vocal jazz will want to get to know. Despite her incredible technique, Duchak’s voice expresses personality nicely without the over-affectation that so many vocalists suffer from. Fans of such singers as Jane Monheit should give this CD a spin. I know I am looking forward to hearing more from this talented lady in the future.

The songs run the gamut of emotions from the sorrowful to the upbeat, with the over-the-top Latin take on "Raise the Roof," perhaps the show stopper of the album. But the quieter moments appeal as well as on "Whoever You Are, I Love You," and Duchak shows she can belt out the blues as well on "What You Don’t Know About Women." Song choices and production/playing aside, it is Duchak's stunning voice that really rockets this album into the stratosphere.

Talkinbroadway.com review
". Her fresh interpretations are imbued with intelligence and genuine artfulness and heart rather than tricks or self-indulgence. This album is one of my very favorite issues of the last few months. Roberta can be brassy and sassy ("What You Don't Know About Women" with impressive mastery of its quick jazz shifts and build) or lusciously creamy in a ballad. The closing track, "So Many People," brings loving warmth and feel-good ambiance to the Sondheim ballad. This intersection is a happy meet-and-greet moment for Broadway and jazz, a marriage that works here ... perfectly."

Radioindy.com Intersections" by Roberta Duchak is a vibrant assembly of delightful jazz tunes. In these broadway-influenced tunes, Roberta's perfect pitch and flowing tone fuse to create the most seducing component of "Intersections." The excellent vocal performances are nicely complimented by top notch musicianship. "Let Me Sing" shows off Roberta's beautiful tonal texture and the passion that she puts into her performances. "Seasons Of Love" stands out as extremely melodic, memorable, and musically compelling. Moreover, "Raise the Roof" takes an enjoyable venture into the upbeat sounds of Spanish-flavored jazz. Lyrically, Roberta crafts tunes of joy, love, pain, and fun with great skill! Brilliant production that allows Roberta's captivating voice to stand out above the instrumentation brings this CD to a nice close. Fans of Jane Monheit and Nancy Wilson will find genuine pleasure in the beautiful music on this CD!
